Educational summary of documented chemical interactions. Do NOT attempt any of these mixtures. If an accidental mix occurs, evacuate, ventilate, and call emergency services. Terms of use.
Chemical mixture
Can you mix Sulfuric acid and Sodium hydroxide?
⚠Dangerous. Extremely exothermic, can boil and splash.
What happens
Concentrated sulfuric acid and NaOH release enough heat to flash boil the water. Splashes cause deep chemical burns.
Reaction products
- Sodium sulfate
- Water
If contact happens
Dilute each reagent below 10 percent before mixing. Use a cooled bath, face shield, apron.
