Educational summary of documented chemical interactions. Do NOT attempt any of these mixtures. If an accidental mix occurs, evacuate, ventilate, and call emergency services. Terms of use.
Chemical mixture
Can you mix Acetone and Hydrogen peroxide?
⚠Dangerous. Forms acetone peroxide (TATP), primary explosive.
What happens
Under acid catalysis peroxide and acetone form crystalline TATP, one of the most shock and friction sensitive explosives known. Even without a catalyst, some accumulation is possible on evaporation.
Reaction products
- Triacetone triperoxide (TATP)
If contact happens
Never combine. Discard peroxide waste separately from ketone waste.
