Educational summary of documented chemical interactions. Do NOT attempt any of these mixtures. If an accidental mix occurs, evacuate, ventilate, and call emergency services. Terms of use.
Chemical mixture
Can you mix Hydrogen peroxide and Hydrochloric acid?
!Caution required. Slow release of chlorine at high concentrations.
What happens
Concentrated peroxide oxidizes chloride to chlorine. Dilute household solutions are essentially inert but concentrated technical grade should be kept apart.
Reaction products
- Chlorine (Cl2)
- Water
If contact happens
Handle concentrated (>30 percent) peroxide in a fume hood, away from chloride sources.
