Educational summary of documented chemical interactions. Do NOT attempt any of these mixtures. If an accidental mix occurs, evacuate, ventilate, and call emergency services. Terms of use.
Chemical mixture
Can you mix Hydrogen peroxide and Nitric acid?
⚠Dangerous. Forms peroxynitric acid, decomposes violently.
What happens
Nitric acid and hydrogen peroxide form unstable peroxy species that decompose with gas evolution and heat, especially with organic contamination.
Reaction products
- Peroxynitric acid (HNO4)
- Oxygen
If contact happens
Never store together. Piranha-type mixtures require expert protocols and blast shielding.
